Who are we?
O Clarim originated from an initiative of seven Catholic youth who wanted to start a newspaper in 1948, in order to respond to the needs of the Catholic Church and the society. Over the past 78 years, O Clarim has witnessed the transformation of Macau, manifesting Chinese, Portuguese and Catholic cultures in one newspaper. It has witnessed the transition from movable type printing, offset printing and to digital printing. Over the years, O Clarim has been mindful of responding to the needs of the times, following the pace of the society, as well as developing online media and infographics, in order to present the Truth of Christ and His Church in a faithful and meaningful way.
Mission
The only trilingual newspaper in Macau, O Clarim is the window of the Catholic Church in Macau promoting a viable, vibrant, and diverse Catholic publishing and online platforms throughout the Chinese speaking Regions and beyond. It also caters to the Portuguese and English-speaking communities.
We contribute to the Church’s mission of communicating the Good News and evangelizing the modern world by engaging and supporting Catholic media, with the following aims:
- To create a greater awareness of the value and availability of Catholic content, Catholic reading, and Catholic publications.
- To connect the Catholic life and teachings with readers through personal stories of triumphs and struggles, joys and challenges.
- To be a source of support and encouragement for those who love their faith, those who struggle with their faith, and those who long to learn more about the richness of Catholic tradition.
